The final week of the six-week HIIT (that's High Intensity Interval Training for new readers) course, a new victim joined the group and another came to observe. The observer wanted to know if it was 'their thing', if it was they would sign up.
There is a new piece of equipment too, I'm referring to the Bosu ball not the random pair of trainers. Stand on the Bosu ball, feet on either side, using hips and knees manoeuvre the edge of the ball to touch the ground while moving in a circle. It is possible, honest. It's a similar movement to having a hula hoop stuck to your feet.
In between each exercise, again the 2kg dumb bells, but this time boxing, star jumps, and pistol squats. I learn very quickly that it's not good to lower the dumbbells, at speed, during a star jump, but obviously not quickly enough judging by the bruising on my legs!
As the only female in the group equality is taken seriously, I must use the same weight dumbbells as the weightlifting fellas. Dare I object? 'Pain,' shouts Pete, 'is weakness leaving the body'. I am in no position to argue.
As the room heats up we are ordered to give 100%, it's written as a reminder in the mist in the mirror. I thought I was! Was he is in the army I question in my delirium? Never mind this is the last session. 'I'll give you all a holiday next week', says Pete. 'No HIIT next Tuesday, we start again on 25th'.
A quick glance around the room, slow nods, weary knowing looks. We've all signed up again, including the observer as 'yes it is for her'. Why? Because we all love it!!!!!
