Our static cycle rides were outside Marks and Spencer in Poole's Dolphin shopping centre. Mark joined us for the second static cycle ride on 4th December. Hilarious. He turned up unannounced at lunch time, stripped off his coat and jumper and rode the bike for over an hour. He was breathless not from riding but from greeting and speaking to all his parishioners out doing some Christmas shopping.
He even used his turn on the bike to confess "I am really, really scared of spiders" he revealed. He also expressed concern that his tent fellow might snore. Of course, we told him, the person who snores and disturbs his sleep might not be with him, but in a tent 20 feet away. Canvass does not offer sound proofing.
It is surprisingly energetic on a static cycle and as it soon became obvious that two of us were showing the effects of putting in the effort, I trotted off to Primark to buy a pack of tea towels. The cheapest and most absorbent items I could find under the circumstances. Mark was extremely grateful as he mopped himself down. He was off to take communion with one of his parishioners after his turn!
Penny despite putting in just as much effort continued to smile while turning a very genteel shade of pale rose pink! She is already an experienced static bike rider having singled handedly ridden from 10.00-16.00 a couple of weeks earlier. All good training, an estimated distance of approximately 128km phew! She can therefore be forgiven for the occasional wondering with her collecting bucket to the window of M&S to look dreamily at the Onesies.
